93 Canadian Soldiers....Gone

I know I have blogged about this before, but it just devastates me.

Today was a deadly day over in Afghanistan. More soldiers were killed. Young men, fathers, brothers, sons....surely to be missed by those who love them.
Since the mission began in 2002, we have lost 93 soliders. For what? Is anyone clear on what our mission is anymore? I certainly don't. Bring our men and women home - ALIVE.

I will be ready and waiting to salute the soldiers on their way home over the Highway of Heroes.

My thoughts and prayers to the families.

Olivia is coming!!!

I am so beyond excited that I think I am bordering on crazy! (No comments on that one!)

Miss Olivia is a school friend of Jonah since they were wee ones. Olivia and her parents were in Canada for a work assignment and in the summer of 2006, it was time to go back home to England. Jonah was devastated, we were devastated. This is such a lovely family and we didn't want them to go. I can still remember saying goodbye at the Holiday Inn, hearing Jonah and Olivia cry out each others names. They were 3 years old at the time.

Many people say, chidren forget anything before the age of 4. I have never believed that. Jonah remembers EVERYTHING - even about Olivia, without prodding. He misses his dear friend who he says he will marry some day.

We have been counting down the days until Olivia arrives for a visit. It's this saturday!!! Its been 2 years! Her family is going to a wedding, so we are thrilled to be watching her for the day - more so watching the 2 kids together. Jonah has planned the day - he wants to take Olivia to the restaurant we frequent to order her Mickey Mouse Pancakes, then to the zoo so they can touch the stingrays together, picnic lunch at the zoo, the water park at the zoo and then out for dinner. It is a full day and we can't wait!

Jonah also wants to take Olivia to BuildABear. He wants to make a "Jonah" bear and Olivia make an "Olivia" bear - then they switch. This way "Jonah" is always with Olivia in England and "Olivia" is always with Jonah in Canada. Yes, I know my hydro bill is cheaper than a BuildABear experience, but this thought brings a tear to my eye - how could we NOT do that??

Jonah asked this morning, how much longer?? I told him 2 more sleeps. He said he wished that he could sleep thru friday so Saturday would get here faster. SO SWEET!!!!

We'll see you in 2 more sleeps Miss Olivia!!!

35 by 35

Yesterday Sean and I were having a discussion and my birthday came up. It is not until January, but it occurred to me that I will be 35. It is by no means "old" but for whatever reason, it kinda bugged me. All day I was trying to understand why it bugged me. I mean, I have always had the mentality that you are only as old as you feel and I feel pretty young still. Then it kicked in.....my weight. The major thing that ALWAYS gets me down. I know that I am over-weight and I am working on it, but admittedly, it is a slow process. I weigh 55 pounds more than I did on my wedding day. That really bugs me. I know Sean loves me regardless and yes, I had a child, but I would still like to get back that sexy factor I feel is missing.
So I have given myself a new challenge called 35 by 35. I will lose 35 pounds by the time I turn 35. That gives me 5 months. Definately going to be a very hard challenge for me. I love my treats and I am a carb fanatic!

Anyone want to join me?? LOL.

Wish me luck! I will need it!

It's the little things......

When Jonah gave me a hug today, he said "one more hug Mommy." I, of course said "Sure!" What he said next made my whole day, week, year.... "A double hug cuz double the love is better, right Mommy? And I SUPER DUPER love you so we need to have more than one hug."

He is 5..... The little things......hang on to them, all of them.

Advice - Give or Take

Are you the type of person that gives advice? Or more importantly, are you the type of person that will TAKE advice?

I am often the "ear" for my friends. They tell me what dramas are happening in their life and I am the one to offer advice to them to help them get thru it. I am in no way saying I am "right" in these situations, but I always give advice that I would want given to me.

This week, the tables were turned on me......

I have been on an emotional roller coaster for a couple of weeks now and I have been feeling betrayed and taken advantage of by someone who I thought was "a friend". Turns out, sadly, I was wrong.

Now I have ALWAYS been the type of friend that gives you 100% right up front, no questions asked. But if you deceive me, it wont be pretty. For whatever reason, this one has hurt me more. I think because my child is involved.

Earlier this week, I was chatting on MSN with my friend Lee - which I should point out that I have met ONCE in real life and she has been a better friend than many I have known for years! I explained the situation to her and she gave her heartfelt advice on how to handle this situation. In my heart and head, I knew that Lee was right in what she was telling me. I KNEW IT! But I kept responding back to her with "buts". It was a key message back from Lee that struck a cord with me. She asked that if it was her telling me this, what would my advice be to her?? It was like a siren or bells and flashing lights that go off when someone wins at a lot machine. Why was I not taking the advice that would have been the same coming from my mouth? Is it just easier to dole it out than take it? Of course it is....but I know in my heart, I know in my mind, even my gut knows it. I know what I have to do. I just hope I can survive it.

So....are you an advice giver or taker?

*Lee - thanks again for being proof that friendship can be true and honest!

Jonah's First Goal!!

It would just figure.....the first soccer game I miss and Jonah scores his first goal! All because of my damn toe!

I am so sad that I missed it. He was so proud of himself. You see, Jonah is not the fastest runner, not the most talented on the team, and often, he is not the best listener when it comes to the coach giving instruction. But he seems to love soccer and always wants to play. And he really does try hard to run with the other boys. So the fact that the best player on the team passed it to him and he scored must have been the best feeling for him!! AND I MISSED IT!!!!

I am so proud of my boy. Go Blue Crush!

My Pinky Toe

Who would have thought that a tiny body part could caused me so much pain!!!

Yesterday I was hurried getting Jonah ready and myself ready for my morning exercise with Sarah. As I came downstairs, my foot hit the couch peg. It went in between my fourth and pinky toe.

OUCH!!!!!

I thought I broke it because it was....not a part of my foot anymore! LOL. I had many colourful words that I NEEDED to say, but Jonah was there. Sean had a look at it and since I could wiggle it, he thought maybe it was "just dislocated".....like it is supposed to hurt less?? LOL. So Sean tried to pop it back in. We heard the pop, but DAMN did it hurt! I was crying and biting on the pillow.

As the day went on, my whole foot swelled out and walking was painful.

This morning, I am very tired. Everytime I moved last night, my foot hurt. Today it looks bruised and is swollen.

So off to the doctor I go today and hopefully, the toe pain subsides. This tiny body part causing a bigger pain in another body part......my ASS!!!!

Husband Tag!

I've been tagged with Husband Tag... keep reading to see if YOU have been tagged!
So here we go...

What is his name? Sean or Daddy

How long have you been married? It was 11 years in June.

How long did you date? We met in May of 1994, engaged in November 1995 and then married in June 1997 so 3 years "dating".

How old is he? He just turned 36!

Who eats more? Well, have a gander at the size of my ass and you will see that I definately eat more!

Who said I love you first? That would be him.....and he was shy about it!

Who is taller? Again, that would be him. But not by a lot.

Who sings better? Sigh....again, that is Sean. He doesnt do it often but it does sound "nice" when he does. ME? I think I sound great when I am alone in my car! LOL.

Who's temper is worse? OOOHHHH, this is a hard one. I am going to point this one to Sean again. I have a temper and man it is bad, but it has to be something extreme to get me there,. Sean lets his go more often - but not at me or Jonah.

Who does the laundry? SEAN!!! LOL. Actaully both. I do whites and Jonahs stuff and my works stuff. He does the others.

Who pays the bills? I do, well.....when they are getting paid that is!

Who cooks dinner? ME!

Who mows the lawn? Sean owns that. I cant stand it.

Who wears the pants in the family? We make our life changing decisions together, and those that involve the kids. Anything else less trivial? It doesn't really matter. Sean will always leave it up to me though which can be annoying.

OK, so I need to tag someone.....Cyn? Lee? CLovergirl? LOL

Learning the value of money

Thursday night was an exciting night for Jonah. He made his very first big purchase with money he has saved up. The big purchase was a Nintendo DS.
Last Christmas Jonah had wanted to get this DS, but we felt he was too young. Same with his birthday that was 2 months later. He also went thru a phase where he was taking advantage of money - not that we have any! He wanted to go out for dinner, buy the DS, so we told him, we dont have money that we can always do what we want. So when he asked to go out for dinner, we said we can do that once in awhile, but not all the time. So he offered to pay! We said OK! We thought this would be a good learning experience as he is seeing the money come out of his piggy bank. Now it was no where fabulous, just the local Subway. Cost about $22. He seemed fine with it. So we made a deal. If he can earn enough money to buy the DS, he can! So he started saving. Any money he received as a gift, went in his piggy bank. He would do jobs around the house to "earn an allowance", all the money went in the piggy bank.

We told him he needed to save $150 and then we would go to the store to buy it. We counted it a week or so ago and here we are, 6 months later......
First, we had to decide on the colour - he chose blue of course.

Then he paid at the register with the cash.

And here is the happy customer:
