Art Award!

Jonah's school has a monthly award program called "The Five A's" - Athletics, Arts, Attitude, Academics and one other one that escapes my brain right now.

Jonah was very excited to hear that he was receiving the Arts award! The school hosted an assembly and invited the parents to see the kids receive their awards. Jonah was so very proud. WE were so very proud.

Wizard of Oz Experience

One night while searching the Rogers guide, I came across the Wizard of Oz.
I decided to record it even though I hate taping movies on cable since
they have commercials. Perish the thought, eh?
I am surprised I don't have this movie on DVD or BluRay actually.
Afterall, this was a childhood fave in my family - in particular my sister Dawn.
It is her favourite movie - next to the Vacation series. LOL
I had held off showing the movie to Jonah in the past because he is a sensitive kid.
I was afraid it would cause nightmares.
I know. I'm a suckhole.
We got all settled in with the blankets and snacks and turned on the movie.
It didn't start off too well.
Jonah could not get over the fact that the beginning was in black and white.
It irked him to no end.
To the point that I ended up briefing him on what the dealio was with the running away,
the storm, the farm hands.....and I fast forwarded.
I stopped just before the house lands in Munchkinland.
Once Jonah saw the colour, he was enjoying it a lot more.
Oh how we are conditioned!!
He LOVED the munchkins, hated the witch and thought Glinda was pretty.
He found it amusing when the trees were throwing apples, felt bad that the tin man
had been holding the ax up for so long and he wants to see a horse of different
colours in real life. His favourite character seems to be the Lion.
He was always laughing at him.
Then the ending came.
And the black and white was back.
A big sigh of disappointment.
I asked Jonah what he thought of the movie.
He responded, "It was pretty sick." - which in 7 year old land means "cool".
"EXCEPT the beginning and end."
LOL.
He did tell me that he is putting this on his "Movie Want List" so
that made me happy!
I do love our movie snuggle time.
Wonder which classic I should introduce him to next......hmmmm.

First Day of School

Jonah was very excited to be starting a new school this year.
His last school had been a rough ride. One of the great things about buying a new house is moving to a new school!
New house and new school = happy Jonah
We met up with the Sibleys, who will be right across the street when we move!

The kidlets all ready for school!
Joshua Sibley, Emily Sibley and my Jonah.

Even though we don't move in for another 4 days (yay!), we still took a picture of Jonah on the front stoop.
Family shot on the porch of the new house :)
I love that the neighbours all walk the kids to school together.

Jonah met his new teacher, Mrs. Vale, who was more than happy to pose for a picture for the scrapbooking momma!

Jonah hangs out with his buddies until the bell rings.

I still can't believe that Jonah is in grade 2.
I was very emotional when I watched him walk into the school. I just know this is what he needs, he will be much happier as we all will with this move.
I am so happy - unbelievably happy.
How did your kiddies first day go?

SK Grad

Yes, that's right. My bubbaloo is graduating! LOL
How cute is it that they dress the Kindergarten kiddies in a cap and gown for a picture?? I just had to purchase the package. Toward the end of the month they will have a mini ceremony so they can receive a certificate and the blubbering parents can take photos. Then it is summer break and hello Grade 1!!

And yes....Pretty sure I will be one of the blubbering ones :o)

Times have changed!

Remember the days of carnival games? Tossing the bean bags into a hole to win some kind of prize that your parents tried to get rid of at their next garage sale?

This is the game I remember. A clown board. You had to throw the bean bags into the balloon holes. I have also played the one that you threw the bag into the clowns mouth.
Clowns are a part of a carnival afterall.....right?
This is the game Jonah's school had for their Fun Fair.
It's called Pot Shot. You had to throw a BROWN bean bag that represented a terd.....yep, a big ol' piece of poop, into the toilet! The prize was something I can't even remember. I am positive Jonah tossed it.

Is it just me, or have times REALLY changed?? LOL

Jonah and Hump Day

Every morning, Jonah and I watch a local breakfast show called Breakfast Television. Jonah heard them say - Happy Hump Day everyone!
Jonah turned to me and said, "Are we supposed to be humping today??"
I held my breath.
He then said, "Because I don't know how to do that."
Exhale.
For the life of me, I couldn't think of why we call it Hump Day - it has since been explained that it is Hump Day because we are over the "hump" of the week - so in true Momma panic mode I had to come up with an explanation for my curious six year old.
Me: "Well honey, this is the day the very good camels get their humps!"
He bought it.

Make a Wish

This was another photo taken on Mothers Day. Jonah wanted to make a wish:

"I wish Mothers Day could be everyday."

Little does he know.....it is.

Spring shots

Here are a few spring shots from Mothers Day. We were happy the sun came out long enough for us to go for a walk and get some pictures.

Jonah saw a field of dandelions and just had to go roll around in it.

This is an old tree in the greenspace across from our house. Every year we say it is going to fall because it is leaning so much. But she stands strong!

A mother's day photo with the beautiful trilliums behind us. There were so many it looked like a blanket of snow. I love Trilliums, but they are illegal to pick as they are an official flower.

Here is a close up of one of the flowers. I am in no way a girly-girl, but seeing flowers - especially these ones - always makes me happy

As much as I am a Canadian girl and love the changes of seasons, it was really nice to finally see some green and new buds!

I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did.

My Baby is 6 today!!

I cannot believe my baby boy is 6 years old day! I have a lot of feelings about today. I am very happy and blesssed to have Jonah in my life - especially since doctors "thought" I couldn't have kids. But I also freaked out a little bit because he is growing up! I feel like there is no justification of me babying him! LOL. I wanted to take today off to spend the day with him, which normally isn't a problem. But I have been in a work session that carries on to tomorrow. So I am ducking out early today, to make sure I am home for the birthday boy.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JONAH! We love you!

Another Jonah-ism

You may remember my post a couple of weeks ago about my Jonah waking me up in the middle of the night to share his ever so exciting news - a barely loose tooth.

Well, lately it has become much more loose. I told Jonah it would probably come out in a couple of days. Jonah decided to take that matter into his own hands and yank his tooth out. The kid has no fear.

So in the Tooth Fairy pillow the tooth goes. The Fairy brought $3 - a little more than normal because it was a tooth that generally doesnt come out until Year 8.

When Jonah woke this morning and saw the money he was so excited! He then told me: "If more of my teeth come out I can buy that DS game I want! C'mon Mommy! Lets go get some candy so my teeth fall out!"

My Jonah.

Haf to tell you sumping

Jonah had asked me to video tape him showing off his funky moves. I barely started videotaping and Jonah said he had to tell me something. I am so glad I had the camera rolling! One of those heartwarming moments.

Jonah never did finish the dance!

Commentary by Jonah

Jonah received this truck from our friends Louis and Lee. He LOVES this truck and was very excited because I gave it back to him today. When we have unmanaging days, we lose the truck. Jonah gets very angry when I take away his truck. He sleeps with this truck, watches tv with this truck and will even take it in his backpack to school - even though he isn't supposed to.

This is a video of him after I gave him his truck back. :)

The Faux Hawk!

Jonah's hair was getting quite unruly. He has what the hairdresser calls "reverse crown" so when his hair gets long, it stands up, never down. Very annoying I might add! Add a winter hat and well.....there is no word for the coiff!

So off to the hairdresser we went. He asked for a "Mohawk" but I told him that he can do the punk rocker green mohawk when he is 16 (lets hope he forgets!) so for now lets go with the "Faux Hawk".

Of course he has a million questions for the hairdresser, but he was also a lot more co-operative than he normally is. Mostly because it was something new for him!

The cherry on the sundae was when the hairdresser brought out the gel to spike his hair!
He can't wait to show his friends tomorrow - unfortunately it is going to be VERY cold here and he will have to wear his winter hat. Boy, that will be fun explaining that to him in the morning!

Isn't he a patooter? And yes, I am already planning a scrapbook page for this....DUH!! LOL

Jonah's Excitement

My Jonah (who is going to be 6 in a month) has some very exciting news in his world.

He has another loose tooth! This will be tooth #3.

All day yesterday he was playing with it. I told him to just leave it alone and if it is to fall out, then it will work its way out. But does a 5 year old boy listen? Frig no!

Off to bed he goes, still giving the tooth a wiggle here and there. He asked me to wiggle it and I did. It was slightly loose, but I wouldn't expect it to come out by tomorrow night in time for the tooth fairy. I told Jonah we can check on it in the morning.

Perhaps I should have been more clear on the definition of morning to my son. He did come to me this morning to excitedly tell me the tooth is "mucher looser" than it was when he went to bed. Yep, in the morning, there was Jonah. Oh, did I mention that it was 3 in the morning?? Oy vey, the kid was so excited that he bounded into my room to show and tell me!!

In my groggy state, I tried to be excited for him - even though i wanted to cry from being woken up. I checked it, yep it was certainly loose, and I told him that it was still sleeping time and we can talk about this when the sun is up! Sean, in his typical deep sleep missed all the excitement.

So at 7am this morning, guess what Jonah and Momma were talking about.......
Building a snow fort! NO MENTION OF THE TOOTH!!

Sigh......life with a 5 year old. Tiring, but full of excitement.

I missed the moment :(

I am such an idiot. Maybe I can blame it on being sick, I don't know.
I had created a special video message for Jonah from the big guy - SANTA.
It was offered thru Sympatico and it was free of charge. Even better, it was personalized. You put in your childs name, province, age, something he wants for Christmas and something he did this year (i.e did well at school, listened to Mom and Dad). Then you upload a picture and voila! It was the cutest video.

Here is the link to Jonahs if you are interested in viewing it:http://portablenorthpole.sympatico.msn.ca/watch/4132cfd83859930ca6a2821c3e81e1f9

Anyway, Jonah was so surprised! So excited! The look on his face was PRICELESS!!! And guess how I....Char....the one who loves to scrapbook......the one who takes pictures of EVERYTHING....c'mon....guess how I captured the amazing moment......give up?? Well, I'll tell you...... I FRIGGIN DIDN'T!!! UGH! I am so mad at myself. I was so excited to show him that I didn't grab the video camera and I didn't grab my digital camera. What the flying frig was I thinking?? Apparently I wasn't.

I hate not capturing those moments.

Sigh......

A sign from Santa??

This morning, Nana called Jonah to give him some exciting news. My mom saw a reindeer beside her car this morning as she left for work. She thought it would be fun to give Jonah a call to tell him that Santa must be nearby!

"Hi Nana!"

Listening intently to what Nana has to say.....

......could it be true??

*SHOCK* A REINDEER??

So the talk of the morning at our house before school was...

* Do you think Santa is close?
* Can we go to Nanas to see the reindeer?
* Do you think it will fly to Ajax?
* Can I tell my friends at school?
* How many more sleeps till Santa comes?
* Can Nana tell the reindeer to tell Santa that I really want Mario Kart?

I have 2 more months of this.....gotta love the excitement of a little boy.

9 Hours

There are a lot of things you can do in 9 hours:

Complete all the laundry
Clean the house
Clean out the garden in the backyard
Pack away summer furniture to prepare for winter
We could have hopped in the car and drove to Boston!

This sunday, we didn't use 9 hours to do any of that.
Instead, we stayed in our jammies, didn't answer the phone, didn't answer the door. Sean, Jonah and I got under the blankets and we played this game - Super Mario Galaxy - for the very first time. Needless to say, we LOVED it! Jonah thought it was so much fun to stay in our jammies and just play the game. We all took turns and laughed the whole day. We play for 9 hours!
So yes, the laundry is still piled up and yes some things should be cleaned up, but those 9 hours of laughter, smiles, giggles and family fun time was just not worth giving up.

Thanksgiving Tradition

It has become a tradition at Thanksgiving that Jonah and Nana create the centerpiece for the dinner table. We walk thru local greenspaces and pick out some beautifully coloured leaves, wild flowers and pine cones. We make sure we get something of every colour.
Here are some photos of our leaf collection:

The finished product.

Our family picture - my parents, my sister, my nephews, friend of the family, my family and of course, my sisters puppy Zeus.
Hope everyone had a great long weekend!

Excitement at Wal-Mart

A few Saturdays ago, I needed to go to Wal-mart. Now I have to say, I HATE going to Wal-mart, especially on a weekend! And I had to take Jonah with me. Even HE didn't want to go!
But we were pleasantly surprised when we pulled up to see a bunch of racing flags hanging around. Of course, Jonah wanted to check it out. Jonah was thrilled to see a "real live race car!"

They were showcasing the racers for Pennzoil. Jonah met David Elliott who is the race car driver. It was like a dream come true for him!

But the kicker was....I didn't have my frickin camera!! I carry my camera EVERYWHERE! But I had taken it out of my purse to download some pics and didnt put it back. I happened to say to one of the fellas there that I forgot my camera. He asked if he could take a picture of Jonah IN the car and put it on his website! Jonah....IN the car...INSIDE a racecar! I don't know who was more excited. Of course I said yes! Jonah already had his foot inside the window! LOL.

David Elliott came over to talk to Jonah and gave him an autographed photo as well.

Jonah's day was made! I don't think I will have a problem getting him to Wal-mart anymore!

Here is the picture of Jonah in the racecar:

My Senior Kindergarten Boy

It has been brought to my attention that I did not post any pics of Jonah from his first day at school! Oh my! I blame my getting to know Candice (my camera) as the reason!
Jonah started Senior Kindergarten this month and he was so excited to be going to a big boy school. Everything was new to him - the school, the teachers, the classmates. And he took it in stride.
Here is my boy in front of his school - Seems so small!
Jonah told me that he was a big boy and that he didnt need to hold my hand in the school yard - cue moment of heartbreak.....

In front of the kindergarten doors:

The bell rang and all the kids screamed! I think it scared the pants off them! I am happy to say that even though Jonah wanted to walk in the yard alone - as the big boy he is - he still gave his Momma some lovin - lots of hugs and kisses! Still bugs me that I had to go to work and I wasnt able to pick him up for his first day. But, he had a great day! Teacher sent me a note on the 2nd day that said Jonah was very excited to be at school but that he needs to know that he can't talk ALL the time and that he has to listen more than talk! HA! Good luck with that!

This is another picture I took of Jonah when he wasn't looking. I think it is my favourite. You can see a lot of my Dad in him.

Jonah - 51/2 years old and in senior kindergarten.....where did the time go??
