Friday Fill-ins - May 22

This is a little baby bird who surprised us one morning
when we opened the back door. He just sat and stared at us.

Happy Friday! Here are my Friday Fill-ins. Answers in bold. And...here we go!

1. Moving my arm everyday will help get the mobility back in my elbow.

2. My love, support and friendship is always free.

3. My best quality is telling it like it is.

4. Sharing details. It's what I do when I scrapbook so everyone can share the moment.

5. In nearly 10 years, I made a home in Ajax, had a beautiful boy, wonderful pets came and went and I really came into my own.

6. A pedicure is what I need right now! Seriously, these feet should not be sporting flipflops!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to seeing my Mom and Dad, tomorrow my plans include packing for Cape and taking Jonah to a creepy crawler party and Sunday, I want to enjoy the day with my boys at Canada's Wonderland!

If you want to participate, visit this site: http://fridayfillins.blogspot.com/
I would love to see your Fill-Ins, so please leave me a comment letting me know you participated!

Times have changed!

Remember the days of carnival games? Tossing the bean bags into a hole to win some kind of prize that your parents tried to get rid of at their next garage sale?

This is the game I remember. A clown board. You had to throw the bean bags into the balloon holes. I have also played the one that you threw the bag into the clowns mouth.
Clowns are a part of a carnival afterall.....right?
This is the game Jonah's school had for their Fun Fair.
It's called Pot Shot. You had to throw a BROWN bean bag that represented a terd.....yep, a big ol' piece of poop, into the toilet! The prize was something I can't even remember. I am positive Jonah tossed it.

Is it just me, or have times REALLY changed?? LOL

Jonah and Hump Day

Every morning, Jonah and I watch a local breakfast show called Breakfast Television. Jonah heard them say - Happy Hump Day everyone!
Jonah turned to me and said, "Are we supposed to be humping today??"
I held my breath.
He then said, "Because I don't know how to do that."
Exhale.
For the life of me, I couldn't think of why we call it Hump Day - it has since been explained that it is Hump Day because we are over the "hump" of the week - so in true Momma panic mode I had to come up with an explanation for my curious six year old.
Me: "Well honey, this is the day the very good camels get their humps!"
He bought it.

Make a Wish

This was another photo taken on Mothers Day. Jonah wanted to make a wish:

"I wish Mothers Day could be everyday."

Little does he know.....it is.

Spring shots

Here are a few spring shots from Mothers Day. We were happy the sun came out long enough for us to go for a walk and get some pictures.

Jonah saw a field of dandelions and just had to go roll around in it.

This is an old tree in the greenspace across from our house. Every year we say it is going to fall because it is leaning so much. But she stands strong!

A mother's day photo with the beautiful trilliums behind us. There were so many it looked like a blanket of snow. I love Trilliums, but they are illegal to pick as they are an official flower.

Here is a close up of one of the flowers. I am in no way a girly-girl, but seeing flowers - especially these ones - always makes me happy

As much as I am a Canadian girl and love the changes of seasons, it was really nice to finally see some green and new buds!

I hope you all enjoyed your day as much as I did.

For a good cause

Every summer, we usually buzz Jonah's head. Just makes it easier and more comfortable. Jonah has been in need of a haircut so when I told him we were going for a trim, he asked if he could do what the policemen on tv and his friend Joey did at school to support a young boy with cancer - and shave his head. He also wanted to donate all the money in his piggy bank to find "medicine to make them better." I was very proud of Jonah. How could I say no? I told him I will match what is in his piggy bank.

Here is a before picture:

Daddy pulls out the trimmer...

Had to take this picture. He looks like a kid from WhoVille!!

The new do for summer!

I am very proud that Jonah has it in him to help others and shows his sensitive side.
Next mothers day we will be participating in a charity event - again Jonah's idea. He wanted to be a part of the human chain that "hugs" the Hospital for Sick Children every year on Mothers Day. I will proudly be there with my boy.

Sharing Beauty

This is a layout I created the night before I broke my elbow. Ironically, I took this photo a day after I fractured my foot!
I had received a wonderful gift - a Canon G9 - from my friends Mark and Sandra. I was testing out the settings when I took this picture of my beautiful friend Colleen.

I had printed off a copy for her to keep. We had been talking about gifts that have a personal touch and joked about how the picture would mean more if I gave it as a layout. So that's what I did!

The title came to me right away. The day was full of beauty, the sparkle on the water showed the beauty of sun dancing on water, Colleen's walk showed her beauty, Colleen herself exudes beauty.

Colleen is one of the most caring people I have met. She came over to my house last week and cleaned it top to bottom, prepared a dinner casserole so Sean and I didn't have to worry about cooking, made me a cd with worship songs including her hubby singing! and she made me a homemade card with sweet words from her heart. I was so touched by her act of kindness. I am blessed to have her in my life.

Went to see the surgeon today.....

...and things look great!! Screws are in place, no sign of any halos (means things are slipping), and they were happy with my progress. Muscles are still really stiff and lots of work to do, but my progress is on track!!

Thank you for all your prayers, well wishes, happy mail and inspiration notes. Much love to you all.

Where I AM

Yesterday while watching tv with Sean, a commercial for a jewellery store came on advertising a special on diamond earrings. Were they pretty? I guess. But the price was $400. I made a comment to Sean "Do you know the damage I could do in a scrapbook store with $400??"
Clearly, I am quite bitter that I can't scrapbook! Just then, the final line of the commercial blared out to me....."Make this mother's day special and show the one you love....blah, blah..." Right then it occurred to me.....next week is Mother's Day and I can't even hug my child! I was so upset and fell right back into wallowing. Yes, I can give Jonah a one arm hug, but when it has been so long you want the full on squeeze!

Sean has been amazing at keeping my spirits up. As have many of you! Before I went to my physio, I commented that it is very disheartening as it shows me how far away I am. Sean told me I was wrong. It shows me how FAR I have come. And he is right.

Yesterday I posted a wallowing moment - of where I am NOT.
Today I am posting of where I AM!

I am in a loving family.
I am in a wonderful home full of love and laughter.
I am with an amazing husband who knows no boundries of caring for his invalid wife.
I am with a sweet, loving, adorable boy who loves his mommy immensely.
I am in the company of understanding, sympathetic and generous, caring friends - some who I have never met!
I am getting better.
I am going to get thru it all.
I am in love.
I am living in happiness.
I am thankful that this morning Jonah sat on my lap and we were able to cuddle without much difficulty.

I am where I want to be.

Where I am NOT

This weekend was a weekend I had been looking forward to since last fall.
This weekend was my annual spring scrapbook retreat in Norwood.
This weekend was cancelled, all thanks to my swift move of breaking my elbow. Not just any break. I did such a job on it that it needed surgery.

Sigh. I am wallowing.

My scrapbook retreat. Where I am not.

Good Marketing?

Have you seen this commercial?

I am sure I see it at least 3 times a day. I didn't give much thought to it until Jonah was with me and he was enthralled with the people "getting nudied" in it.

Jonah unknowingly raised a very good point by telling me: "Mommy, we shouldn't get that if it is so yucky they want to throw it at each other!"

I had to laugh because in the commercial, there is no eating! Just getting "nudied" and we know the saying - Sex sells. I really thought that "theory" had changed.

So.....is this bad marketing? Or was it brilliant?

It makes you remember the name, but do I want to buy it if it isn't good enough to eat? LOL

Just one of my random thoughts.....let me know what you think.

It's been awhile!! And...here we go!

4. Tulips my favorite spring flower.

5. Things on my desk include everything BUT the kitchen sink.
