Seriously....what is the big deal??

OK. I am a bit confused about something.....
One week today is my birthday. I will be 35 years old. Are any of you gasping right now?? Because I'm not. Apparently I should be.
When my birthday has come up as a topic, people will ask how old I will be. That doesn't bother me. It's their reaction that bothers me! When I say, "I will be 35!" the almost immediate response is to gasp and ask "Really? are you OK??" or "Oh my God!"
So I ask my friends that have already hit this age.....what is the big deal? Does something that I am clearly not prepared for happen? Am I supposed to have some major breakdown? Will my hair fall out? Do my eyes change colour? Are people going to pelt me with tomatos when I walk out the door? Is the retirement villa down the street going to come and ask for a deposit? WHAT? Please shed some light on this for me??
I know that some people tend to get sad on their birthdays or get down about the age they are, but why is it EXPECTED that I be upset?
I am going to be 35. Who cares?? Am I happy? Yes! Am I going to have cake? DUH! Am I going to dance the night away with my friends? YES. So why would I be sad about that??
Seriously.......what is the big deal??

Next time I get that reaction, I am going to tell them to KICK ROCKS! Because it is playing on my last nerve!!
Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

As one who passed 35 YEARS ago, I do believe that many put far to much meaning into a number! You are who you are, you are the age you are, it's what you do with your time that counts! Kick rocks, indeed. You're as old or young as you feel :)

Feeling about 104 today

Did my first comment go through??? If so, delete this one! LOL My computer is wonky today!

Ok, I can't believe you said "Kick Rocks!!" I have only heard that from the guys who work for my parents and I totally thought they made it up!!!! LOL

Seond of all, 35 is no biggie. Just another year, right? I'll be there soon enough. :)

Hey Girl!!! Maybe those people had a hard time hitting 35? I dunno. I thought it was another number - I thought "40" was the BIG PROBLEM....not 35!!!

I've never understood why everyone gets hung up on those birthdays that end in 5 or 0. They are just another birthday......Enjoy yourself and be happy! 35 is a great age ( I miss it! LOL).

I like birthdays. It's just a number. I think that it's an honor to have made it through another year in one piece. KICK ROCKS!

The same thing happened to me last year when I turned 30. It almost seems as if some people want you to feel bad about getting older! (Maybe some people just have their own issues...such as -
jealousy?!). Have a good birthday!

I don't get it either. I agree with Lee, it's just a number, no biggie. Have a wonderful B day!

I'm with you! I love birthdays - a great reason to celebrate - bring them on because time pass regardless of if you celebrate or not so why not have a party?!
